PREVIEW: Marvellous Montreal

Features Previews Testing & Race Reports

Round seven of the 2015 season takes us to Montreal and the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. The circuit was originally Île Notre-Dame Circuit and opened in 1978. The circuit was renamed Gilles Villeneuve after he was killed at Zolder during the 1982 Belgian Grand Prix.

Montreal circuit is a mix of high speed straights and corners with unforgiving walls on both sides. Most notably the ‘wall of champions’ after Villeneuve son Jacques, Michael Schumacher both crashed into the wall during 1999 event. Jenson Button holds the title of the only champion to crash into the wall before being champion.

Mercedes look strongest and with Lewis Hamilton’s ability to win here he will be the favourite to win the race this weekend. But expect Ferrari to be pushing to beat them.
