Daniil Kyvat was fastest in the second practice for this weekend’s Singapore Grand Prix. The Russian was .03 seconds than the Ferrari of Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen, with team mate Daniel Ricciardo third.
It was the first time this season that neither a Mercedes nor a Ferrari had led a session. Lewis Hamilton was fourth fastest for Mercedes with Sebastian Vettel fifth fastest ahead of Nico Rosberg. Red Bull had previously said this weekends race would be a good chance for them to score good points.
The circuit tight and twisty nature plays the strengths of the Red Bull. But it wasn’t a clean day for Kvyat after sitting out the first session because of engine problems. He set his fastest time on the hard tyre. The performance suggests that they should be able to fight with Ferrari.
Mercedes should be able to stay ahead as they normally under preform on Friday. But Red Bull and Ferrari maybe able to challenge even when Mercedes turn up the engine power for the race. In Monza where the team ran their new unit it was a mix result after Rosberg retired after switching back to the old spec engine.
McLaren are also expecting a good result for the same reasons as Red Bull. The short straights should play into their hands. Fernando Alonso was fourteenth behind Jenson Button in eightieth.
