Kimi Raikkonen topped the time sheets on the second day of the final day of testing at Silverstone. The Fin did 103 laps of the circuit posting 01:30.665 to go half a second faster than Mercedes Esteban Ocon who set his fastest time during the morning session completing the most laps.
Red Bull’s Pierre Gasly was third fastest completing the same number of laps as Raikkonen. Ocon led most of the day and impressed with his long runs but Raikkonen in the last hour went 0.6 seconds faster on track. Red Bull abandoned their plans to run the halo on day two. But clocked up a 103 laps and setting there fastest time on the soft tyres.
Force India’s Nikita Mazepin was fourth 0.8 seconds down on Raikkonen after setting his best time on the supersoft tyres. McLaren’s Stoffel Vandoorne was fifth a second down on Raikkonen’s time completing a 114 laps. Williams Valtteri Bottas was sixth with the Williams driver being a further .6 of a second down.
Bottas tested the teams new double rear ring which the team last ran in Barcelona.
Haas’s reserve driver Santino Ferruci in his second day testing for the team was seventh fastest 2.4 seconds down on Raikkonen. Ferruci didn’t improve on his postion he was yesterday. Jolyon Palmer tops the morning session before slipping down the time sheet to eighth for Renault.
Sergio Sette Camara was ninth fastest for Toro Rosso doing 82 laps and being 3.3 seconds down with Manor’s Jordan King tenth a further second behind Camara. The day ran smoothly for all of the teams with only incident was the Brazilian nearly spinning into the wall.
Teams will now begin there preparations for next weekends Hungarian Grand Prix. Sauber are not running because of financial issues
