About the team

Renault are returning to F1 as a works team after a five year break they left as a manufacturer team after they sold most of the shares to Genii capital. They brought back these shares in late 2015 before returning for 2016. The Renault brand has enjoyed success with Bentton and Williams in the 1990’s and won two back to back titles in 2005 & 2006.

But the team was caught up in what some called “the worst case of cheating in sporting history” known as the Crashgate Scandal after ordering Nelson Piquet Jnr to crash deliberately to allow Fernando Alonso to win the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix.
