Notebook – Friday Japan

Features Notebook

Today’s running in Suzuka was hit by rain thought out the day which gave us a change from the normal Mercedes inter-team battle. But however we know Mercedes do mask there true performance on Friday’s before turning it up on Saturday for FP3 and qualifying.

Red Bull run well today but how will they carry that over to Saturday and the race on Sunday. The weather forecast may play to their hands because the forecast suggest rain around midday and overnight. We know that they performed well in Budapest.

Ferrari was out of position slightly but like the main contenders for the championship they also seemed down. However Mercedes did run fastest at one point during the session. So it may have been a bit of damage limitations as there forecast may differ.

Toro Rosso had a good day to Max Verstappen is continuing to impress like Lewis Hamilton his father Jos didn’t allow him to use wet tires through karting. McLaren also performed well whether they brought updates to coincide with Honda’s home race.

But we can’t deny there maybe causation after last year’s race and Jules Bianchi’s fatal accident. There has been improvements to the circuit to improve drainage.
