Nico Rosberg has beaten Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton to take victory in the Mexican Grand Prix and his fourth win this season. The German took control from the start of the race with him leading his team-mate Hamilton.
Rosberg’s win allowed him to overtake Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel for second in the drivers standings after Vettel crashed out on lap 54. Meanwhile, Vettel’s team-mate Kimi Raikkonen crashed for the second time in three races with fellow Fin Valtteri Bottas.
Vettel’s problems started on the first lap after he had contact with his former team-mate Daniel Ricciardo on the opening lap of the race. The German then spun after he started to come through the field then he spun at the Esses damaging his tyres on lap 17. Vettel’s disastrous race continued as he then went noise frist into the barriers which he apologiesed for.
Bottas’s move on Raikkonen also added to Ferrari’s woes after the touched as the Williams driver tried to make a move. Raikkonen’s front wheel went over the front left of the Williams and breaking the red car’s suspension.
It wasn’t plain sailing at Mercedes after a change early on from a one stop to a two stop race. They had planned on do the race using the mediums for a short first run before switching to a two stop race for Hamilton and Rosberg.
Daniil Kyvat was on course for a podium but a late safety car ended it as Bottas made a move on the restart to pass the Russian. Which means he needed to fight off his Red Bull team-mate Daniel Ricciardo. With Bottas’s team-mate failing to following and use the much stronger power unit to pass the Red Bull.
Mexican Sergio Perez who finished behind Force India team-mate Nico Hulkenberg in eightieth pace.
Fernando Alonso’s disastrous year continued with him being the first retirement because oft echnical problems on the opening lap.
