Jerez test: most teams suffer issues on day three

McLaren showed some progress on day three of preseason testing in Jerez with Fernando Alonso completing 32 laps. The team only managed 32 laps at close racing speeds before a water leak brought their day to an end.

It wasn’t only McLaren who had problems as both Mercedes and Red Bull also suffered engine problems on a cold day that dried after starting damp, as Sauber’s Felipe Nasr set fastest time. Until today McLaren only had managed 17 laps in post season testing in Abu Dhabi.

Alonso set his fastest time in damp conditions before the track dried out later on, so the fact that it was 12 seconds off the fastest of the day is irrelevant. The Spaniard spent most of the day not far off the pace set by Nico Rosberg.

Alonso day was again cut short after a “loss of cooling water pressure and have removed the power unit for inspection. That’s a long process, so it ends today’s running.” The team said.
