Alonso not going to Melbourne
Fernando Alonso will not take part in next week’s season-opening Australian Grand Prix on doctors’ advice after a heavy crash in testing. According to a statement Alonso has accepted medical advice
McLaren has confirmed that the teams reserve driver Kevin Magnussen will replace the 33-year old. The statement says “Fernando’s doctors have recommended to him that…for the time being he should seek to limit as far as is possible any environmental risk factors that could potentially result in his sustaining another concussion so soon after his previous one”.
The teams test driver Kevin Magnesson will replace him. Magnusson who raced for McLaren last season and finished second in Australia after local hero Daniel Ricciardo was disqualified. The statement added that Alonso should return for the Malaysian Grand Prix.
Offering advance payments
Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone has offered advance payments to Sauber, Force India and Lotus to help with cash-flow problems ahead of the Australian Grand Prix next week.
Force India deputy principal Bob Fernley say that the 84-year old understand the difficulties facing the mid field. This followed the collapse of Caterham and near collapse of Marussia (now Manor). Caterham’s assets are now due to be liquidated at a public auction starting this month. While Marussia has fought back and entered the 2015 championship as the Manor Marussia F1 team.
Susie Wolff taking part in practices
Susie Wolff will once again take part in two practice sessions and a testing day in June Williams have confirmed.
The brit made her debut last season taking part in first practice at the british Grand Prix. However her time on the track was cut short after an engine problem occurred after completing just one timed lap and further problems hampered running at the following race in Germany.
Wolff said in a statement “As official test driver I will have additional time in the FW37 and by correlating this with my work in the simulator, the team can ensure we are getting the best from the car and check how updates are performing.”
She will also work in simulator to allow the team to get the best from the car and check how updates are working.
Hamilton side project
Reports say that double world Campion Lewis Hamilton is in talks with representatives at Jay Z’s record label Roc Nation to launch a music career.
Hamilton has been working on his own music at his home recording studio, and has reportedly been talking to industry bosses about a possible release. The unnamed source says Hamilton number one priority remains his racing but don’t be surprised if he tries for a pop career too the source said.
Roc Nation boasts a roster which includes Rihanna, Rita Ora, Kanye West, Calvin Harris and Shakira.
