Lewis Hamilton fought back after losing out to both Williams to take his third and back to back victory at his home Grand Prix at Silverstone. The Englishmen had bad start which allowed both Williams to pass both Hamilton and team-mate Nico Rosberg.
Felipe Massa who took the lead early on for the first 20 laps after a safety car, he was fighting his team-mate Valtteri Bottas when the safety car came in until his stop when Hamilton made the move on Bottas.
Hamilton said to the fans on the podium “Thank you for coming out today and making my whole weekend, I really wanted to do it for you guys. I couldn’t have done it without you. I’m so elated. You can’t imagine how happy I am. I was tearing up on the last lap.”
Rosberg said he “was pushing hard to try and catch Lewis under difficult conditions but he made the better call and that is where I lost it. Fair play to him.”
The cause of the safety car was collisions between both Lotus and McLaren’s on the opening lap bringing the safety car out for first two laps. This lead to three retirements which meant only Fernando Alonso could continue.
Hamilton used the undercut to take the lead forcing Massa and Rosberg to make a pit stop. The plan worked perfectly for the brit who managed to pass them during their stops.
As the closing stages of the race there was a treat of rain forcing a switch to inters.
It was a bad day for Sauber after Felipe Nasr was forced to watch the race from the pits after his car was stuck in sixth gear on the track as he headed for the grid.
